Jacob Zuma Assumes the Position

uploaders comment:
Sometime during the course of Friday the 12th of September 2008, Jacob Zuma will learn his fate.

Along with him, South Africa will also learn its fate.

If Zuma has his corruption charges dropped (like his trousers), he will become the next South African president, and the next African despot.

If he faces trial, South Africa gets a brief reprieve from certain calamity. It's brief because the man might still somehow evade justice on some or other technicalities.

This cartoon is based on an idea tweeted to me by Gustav, a Twitter bud. I'm not mentioning his surname, cos his version was a lot less inflammatory. And I simply don't want HIM getting killed by mad Zuma supporters thanks to MY crazy over-the-topness.

The other influence for this cartoon comes from the recent Zapiro editorial cartoon in the Sunday Times in which he shows Zuma getting ready to rape Justice as she is held down by four of his cronies in the ANC and SACP.

Zapiro took some serious heat for that cartoon. I'll take almost no heat, cos I simply don't have the same viewership as he does. Still... I hope this causes at least a slight tremor.

This pic started off as a sketch in my Moleskine notebook, after I interpreted Gustav's Tweeted suggestion. I then scanned it, and brought it into ArtRage 2.5. I coloured and manipulated the pic slightly. All on my overheating Toshiba Tecra M4 tablet pc.

Pressing on Regardless

uploaders comment:
This is one of my 'Roy's Quick Draw' pics for the Moneyweb site. It's about the death of old school journalism as we know it. They will fight to the bitter end, pen in hand. As the digital monster grinds them into old newsprint.

It's a resource for teachers to make their classrooms more fun, more productive, more powerfully learning-based.

Those are all portraits of people who gave talks at an event.

After the gig, I popped them all in a line, grabbed the cheese-moon, and assembled it as a composition.

It expresses something of my commitment to the world of expression of ideas.

This is as low as humour can go. It's pretty much GUARANTEED to offend. I made this cartoon as a challenge to myself. I asked myself, 'How low can I actually go? Can I transcend all known levels of bad taste? Can I dare?' You be the judge.

Betty's Butt Nuggets are offcuts from operations to remove piles. Enjoy the taste sensation!

It's a real, live, painfest. (Actually, it wasn't sore. He's a darn good dentist.)

This week's topic was 'Power'. My take on it is that power is a completely choice-0driven force.

This was created with a gel ink pen in a small Moleskine notebook over five pages. I scanned them in, combined them, and coloured the entire pic in Photoshop CS2. The talk was given by Richard Brussow, an expert on how South Africans can avoid being hijacked in their vehicles. It was done in my Moleskine because I wasn't formally employed to do a visual facilitation. I simply couldn't resist.

A ruling pen looks a bit like a gynaecological instrument. But it gives the most amazing control of the line. Almost like a paintbrush.
