Maybe we should write a standard disclaimer on this topic .. this came up a couple of times already.
It is a pretty German feat to react strongly to any cartoon that claims that someone is "a Hitler". And I agree. I am German, after all. The horrors of Nazi Germany are a complex topic, and any simple equation with Hitler/Nazis does not help to understand either National Socialism or the person / country /animal thus equated with it. Sometimes, however, the "German reactions" mentioned above seem standardized, or even as if we want to protect our Hitler from any comparisons with your small-time villains (this is not directed at Art Holland). This, too, is a serious issue and we (or anyone else reacting that way) should be careful about it. I opt for Nazi comparisons that transcend shallow nazi=evil statements and accusations of others being evil... AS LONG AS THEY ARE FUNNY. Also, I want more Hitlers in cartoons. No reason we shouldn't make fun of that man.
As for this cartoon... nah ... I don't think it's that funny. Or transcending anything. But I like the grotesque pinnocchio nose thing

Hi Art. A caricature is a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing. It uses exaggeration of some characteristics and oversimplification of others. And a cartoon is a sort of a caricature of a viewpoint or situation. When you are used to this language, you expect just that. There's nothig wrong by comparing someone to Hitler or Stalin, provided that everybody know what these two where able to do (in this case is even more appropriated, cause it seems that Ahmadinejad doesn't know). Don't think most of the people would do the exercise you did to read in this cartoon the message that Hitler was a nice guy, instead of that Ahmadinejad is probably not that nice.

But there's nothing wrong with discussing that. It's actually interesting to reflect about it. Thanks for the opportunity.

Ahmadinejad is an ugly ant-Semite. But to compare him with Hitler trivializes the nazi-crimes. There is no difference to other painters who combine Israel with the Fascists.
