Wissenschaftler von University of California in San Diego (UCSD) und der Northeastern University in Boston haben eine Angriffstechnik vorgestellt, mit der man aus der Ferne in drahtlose Gangschaltungssysteme des japanischen Herstellers Shimano eingreifen könnte. https://today.ucsd.edu/story/cybersecurity-flaws-could-derail-high-profile-cycling-races

Ohne Signalverstärker soll der Angriff aus einer Entfernung von bis zu 10 Metern möglich sein. Diese Fernattacken werden durch mehrere Schwachstellen des System begünstigt, sodass sich Schaltvorgänge während eines Rennens manipulieren oder Schaltsysteme gänzlich blockieren lassen.

Auch das Stören von Schaltsignalen einer ganzen Gruppe von Radfahrern soll damit möglich sein. Die Wissenschaftler konzentrierten sich bei ihren Untersuchungen auf die drahtlosen Gangschaltungen des Typs Di2 von Shimano, welches auch die meisten Teams in der World Tour fahren.

Noch’n Dopingproblem!

Scientists from the University of California in San Diego (UCSD) and Northeastern University in Boston have presented an attack technique that could be used to remotely intervene in wireless gear shifting systems from Japanese manufacturer Shimano. https://today.ucsd.edu/story/cybersecurity-flaws-could-derail-high-profile-cycling-races

Without a signal amplifier, the attack should be possible from a distance of up to 10 meters. These remote attacks are facilitated by several weaknesses in the system, allowing shifting processes to be manipulated during a race or shifting systems to be completely blocked. It should also be possible to disrupt the shifting signals of an entire group of cyclists. In their investigations, the scientists concentrated on Shimano's Di2 wireless gear shifting system, which is also used by most teams in the World Tour.
