Kimberly Guilfoyle: “If we want to, we can even bring down governments”
Stavros Papastavrou, Minister of Energy: “Step right up, folks, to see the new American Swagger.”
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) outlines the activity of the American ambassador, who operates in an absolutely Trump-like manner, which includes everything from social appearances to business agreements, energy deals, direct political interventions, and a constant display of her special access to the power centers in Washington. This is the policy of the US toward its “given” ally Greece, which is being turned into a hub for their policy in the region.
The phrase attributed by the WSJ to the ambassador may be infuriating, but it is revealing of the timeless nature of American policy. At a dinner in Athens, referring to political developments in Romania and the fall of the government there, Kimberly Guilfoyle is said to have told Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou that the US can do this “in any country they want” and “they can do it here too.” Her lawyer disputed the description of the incident, while government officials maintained that there was no threat made against Greece.
And so that we don’t forget, Trump’s foreign minister came to talk to us about Democracy; one thing is certain: either you laugh or you cry.
