Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz dämpft Hoffnungen auf eine baldige Waffenruhe in der Ukraine trotz der aus seiner Sicht erfolgreichen Gespräche in Berlin. "Sie haben es an der Reaktion von Russland gesehen: Es wird noch kein Ende dieses Krieges bedeuten", sagte Merz in der ZDF-Sendung "Was nun?". "Wir müssen gemeinsam weitergehen, wir müssen gemeinsam weiter die Ukraine unterstützen", und Russland müsse weiter gemeinsam gesagt werden, dass dieser Krieg aufhören müsse. Zugleich bekräftigte Merz den Erfolg der Gespräche vom Montag: "Wir sind gestern doch einen deutlichen Schritt weiter gekommen, und zwar im Hinblick auf die Bereitschaft der Amerikaner, mit den Europäern zusammen nach einem Waffenstillstand Sicherheitsgarantien für die Ukraine zu geben." The ancient great Greek historian Thucydides, who described the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens, said that "in a war, the occasion is different from the cause." Merz and all these willing ones should first ask the children of Ukraine and the European countries what they want, whether these children want to acquire the culture of self-sacrifice and return in black bags with a flag over them, to economically weak economies without a future. These so-called leaders should understand that they must provide proper solutions for development and prosperity and that the solution they possibly have is not the transformation of the economy into a war economy. Only the will of the Ukrainian people can give the answer as to whether the war will end.
