Freie Radikale sind Zwischenprodukte unseres Stoffwechsels,
die ständig in jeder Zelle des menschlichen Körpers entstehen.
Sie sind hochreaktive, sehr aggressive, chemische Sauerstoffmoleküle
oder organische Verbindungen, die Sauerstoff enthalten
wie beispielsweise Superoxid, Hyperoxid, Hydroxyl etc.
Diese Sauerstoffverbindungen mit ungepaarten Elektronen sind bestrebt,
einem anderen Atom oder Molekül Elektronen zu entreißen.
Sie reagieren mit diesen und bilden dabei neue Radikale,
die wiederum anderen Substanzen ebenfalls Elektronen entreißen
und es kommt in einer Kettenrektion zur stetigen Vermehrung der Radikale im Körper.
Infolge dieser Kettenreaktion entsteht der oxidative Stress.
